Electric Boiler Tanks and Operation

Tanks can be described as those that receive boiler sediments or wastes, or tanks can be described as those that receive clean water and provide make-up water to the boiler as needed to maintain a water level. First, the tanks that receive from the boiler are known as Blowdown or Separator Tanks. They are different but perform a similar function to help the boiler. The water/steam received by the tank may be vented to atmosphere or 100% held internal under pressure. Vented situations often have a cooling water line injecting to the tank drain to prevent hot water from reaching the sewer line. Tanks that absorb and contain simply cool over time and end up with just hot water inside that is later released to the sewer. Codes limit discharges to < 140F to a sewer line. Reimers has an option for a water cooler injection and an automatic drain feature that monitors tank temperature and automatically triggers a drain to the sewer.
